Adobe Pagoda was a multi-media live musical presentation produced by David and Becky Matthews in 1984 -1985. The show was a "Musical extravaganza, a mixture of man, woman and machine." Promotional materials described Adobe Pagoda as:
"a new form of musical entertainment. Live Music featuring a computer controlled robot face harmonizing with the two humans in the group. With projected computer graphics and a synchronized light show, this unusual trio provides exciting new entertainment. Robot 'Adobe' controls the drums, lights, graphics and other special effects, while leading the show and providing back-up vocals."
This multi-media show was done pre-MIDI, using FORTH to control the computers
and BASIC for the graphics displayed on the 50" projection TV.
Reasons for this project were to archive the recordings made in that era, to gain experience producing a CD, and to make our songs into 'tangible art'. I was inspired by an editorial from Michael Molenda in the March 1996 Electronic Musician magazine where he writes: "If you don't document your music on CD, cassette, or vinyl, you're a phantom... Once your music can be popped into a cassette deck or CD player, anything can happen. That's the beautiful, beguiling power of tangible art."
Notice the Theremin that Becky plays in the first song. We added that
after I assembled the Etherwave Theremin from Big
Briar, Bob Moog's company. Enjoy the groovy tunes.
